Leadership Philosophy at Indus International School, Hyderabad
Leadership for Tomorrow is the central philosophy of the school. This stems forth from the belief that Preparation for Life is the purpose of 21st century education. At Indus, leadership is defined as the ability to first lead yourself and then others (through service). As at the end of the day, leadership is experiential.
At Indus, we have a leadership curriculum that is taught formally from grades one to twelve. The leadership curriculum has both a theory as well as an experiential component.
Theoretical Aspect: Under this aspect of the leadership curriculum, students are taught the art of reflection which enables them to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Based on this reflection, students arrive at personal, professional and community service goals. The goals and action plans to realize the goals are documented in a Leadership Journal. Persuasive Communication is another aspect of the leadership curriculum. Students are trained on various nuances of communication, thus enabling then to be good communicators.
Experiential Aspect: At Indus, focus is on all round development of the child (Whole – Education), without compromising on academic excellence. Latent talent in children is developed and nurtured by special emphasis on art and music. Excellent sports facilities and emphasis on games, aids in development of a disciplined approach towards physical fitness.
The Indus School of Leadership is a unique school which imparts experiential leadership training to students. Indus School of Leadership is the only institution in India which has a facility known as the Discovery Course. The Discovery Course is a sixty foot tall high rope course which pushes one beyond his or her comfort zone and initiates the process of growth within, by developing courage, positive risk-taking, resilience, humility and decision-making.
